Return to Country
For many of the people we support, Country is home in a way that never changes, no matter where life takes them. Return to Country is our service for participants who want to get back to their community, their homelands, and their family.
Plenty of people come into Alice Springs for housing, health care, or support, and end up a long way from the places that matter most to them. Time on Country is part of who you are. It keeps you connected to family, culture, and the land you belong to. We help make that connection possible.
Who This Service Is For
This service is for participants who feel the pull of home and need support to get there.
That might be you if:
You’ve moved into Alice Springs for housing, health, or support and you’re missing your community
You have family, ceremony, or cultural obligations
that call you back to Country
You’ve been away from your homelands longer than you’d like
You want to spend time on Country but need support to travel and stay safely
You don’t have to manage it alone. We’re here to help you get back.
What This Service Includes
We support participants to travel back to their community or homelands and to feel safe and looked after the whole way.
Our support can include:

Help planning and preparing for the trip

A support worker to travel with you and stay with you while you're away

Personal care and help with daily tasks during the trip

Support to get to family, ceremony, and cultural events

Help reconnecting with kin, language, and place

Support at short notice for sorry business and cultural obligations
We shape every trip around the participant. Some people want a short visit. Others want longer time on Country. We work out what suits you and your family, then make it happen.
How It Works
We keep the process simple so getting back to Country never feels like hard work.

First, we talk.
You tell us where you want to go, who you want to see, and what matters most about the trip. We listen and we take the time to understand.

Then we plan.
We sort out the support you'll need, the travel, and the daily care, and we work around your family and your timing.

Then we travel.
A support worker goes with you and stays with you, so you're looked after from the moment you leave to the moment you're home.
When the trip’s done, we bring you back safely and check in on how it went, so the next trip is even easier.
Travelling Safely on Country
Going home should feel good, not stressful. Our workers are trained, dependable, and ready to support you the whole way. Personal care and daily support continue while you’re away, so nothing gets left behind. We stay in touch with family throughout, so everyone has peace of mind while you’re in the country.
Why It Matters
Being on Country is good for the spirit and good for health. For many of the people we support, getting back to their land lifts the weight off their shoulders, eases worry, and brings them back to themselves. We treat these trips as part of real care, not as an extra.
Our team understands how much Country means and treats every trip with the respect it deserves. We work on Arrernte Country and support people from many communities, and we bring that understanding to everything we do.
Part of the Support We Offer
Return to Country sits alongside the rest of our supports, from help at home and personal care to community access and life skills. Wherever you are and wherever you’re headed, we shape our services around your goals, your routine, and your culture.
